Nov. 1st, 2004 02:44 amHalloween in this complex stinks. Truly. There's a horde of small children here, and how many trick or treaters did we get? 5. 4 at once, and then another lone one a few hours later, right in the middle of our Samhain ritual, of course, after we'd given up waiting for more. There was a full scale riot of children down in the basketball court (which our building overlooks), that seemed to be an organized event put on by the complex, but I hadn't seen any notice of it on the announcement boards. Perhaps parents have some sort of telepathic mind-meld going on around here? I don't get it. On the plus side, we now have bunches of candy. On the minus side, I enjoy seeing the kids, at least once a year. Some of the costumes can be really great, and I fall victim to baby-rays as easily as anyone. It seems this is just the endpoint of a trend, though - each year we've gotten fewer and fewer kids. It's kind of sad, really - maybe it's just a NYC apartment building thing, but it's like an historical shift in what I've always thought of as a mainstay of American childhood.
A good ritual, and it gave us ideas on how to make rituals work even better for us in the future. Our day to day lives are still in a major flux, due to the new job circumstances (i.e. Sir's home tomorrow, but goes to a client site Tuesday, and we don't know what after that) It feels almost overwhelmingly complex, trying to figure out how to meet all the needs and desires that require so many different things in terms of time and space, but that's just because of the newness.
It's kind of amusing going out and about to places we haven't been for a while, and having people who haven't seen us in months, and don't even know our names comment on how it's been a long time since we were customers. We're a *very* striking couple.:)
