Damn, damn, damn. Take a look at this entry, the last picture in specific. That robe/dress/jacket is lovely. 7-9 skeins of Euroflax linen yarn. Ow. Understand, I've got about a pound of linen I'm currently spinning ( a pound is nowhere near enough, I'd probably need 2, and I'd order 3, just to be sure - it's not like it goes bad.) and this may sound a little arrogant, but...Mine handspun linen is better than the Euroflax yarn. Less 'crunchy', nicer sheen, less 'hairy'. That's a lot of spinning, though. Still, it's such a pretty piece. It seems to be all plain stockinette, but I might do it in a subtle texture pattern, maybe a diamond brocade. Oh, dear. I'm talking myself into it.

The weather is suddenly summery, the high will be near 80 today. As the weather improves the farmers market gets crowded earlier, so as spring progresses we get up a little earlier each Saturday, until the height of summer, when we rise at 6:30am. During the winter we can get up as late as 7:30, and even 8 isn't a disaster, especially if it's raining. There's nothing quite like NYC at 7am on a summer Saturday, though. No traffic, and this exquisite, breathtaking quiet. It's such a precious, precious time, so rare and beautiful. I really adore it.

I'll be joining Sir for the Blackhat convention in Las Vegas the first week of August. What a mind-bogglingly stupid time to go to a desert. I was with him in 2001 for this convention, and found LV to be horriby, horriby boring. I don't gamble, ever, and there's just not much to do, otherwise - the shows are quite expensive, and there are precious few I couldn't see here. Not driving (this year we won't have a rental car, either) I can't get off the Strip, so I'm just planning on bringing a lot of books, and some seriously powerful sunscreen - I couldn't leave the hotel last time without sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses, it was actually painful for me not to have that level of protection. It'll be dull, but honestly I feel guilty for saying that - it seems ungrateful considering most people would probably consider it a wonderful thing. After the convention we'll be taking a couple of days to visit Sir's grandmother in California, which will be nice. She's a lovely woman, and lives in a nice area. The last time we visited was in early March a few years ago, and being out in the sun was amazing medicine after a cold and grey February.

Dad will stay here while we're gone to tend the house and pets. He really enjoyed staying here while we were in Buffalo, and I can tell he's already looking forward to the chance to do it again.
