Dec. 23rd, 2004 02:35 pmI got a package from my parents yesterday, addressed to Dan and M_ Holzman. (They use my legal name.) *rolls eyes* They're utterly giddy about Sir and I getting married, but I am going to point out to Dad that we're hyphenating, even if we're not sure what order to use. (shakes head) I was a little surprised, I'll admit, I would have thought they'd know I'd at least hyphenate - I did so when I was with A. They're remarkably liberal, progressive people in so many ways, but when it comes to me sometime I don't know what they're expecting, or at least hoping for. My mother's been after me to marry Sir for an age, and when I've asked why it's always been something about 'making a statement to your community'.
What? I don't really *have* a face to face community, and you, my friends, already know - we've said everything that we needed to say. Ah, well. They are what they are. For some reaon it reminds me of my mother buying incredibly odd cigarettes for me when I was a teenager, Virginia Slims, Capris, and the like - if I was going to smoke, she at least wanted me to be 'ladylike' about it. Needless to say, I drive her nuts by drinking beer out of bottles and smoking Camels.:) (quitting after the new year. eek.)
Back when Sir worked at Sony, the whole office closed down at the holidays, for four days, and he saved up vacation for a 2-3 week holiday, giving us a long span of time to do our shopping, assorted holiday business, and simple quiet. This year he only has four days off, going back to work Monday. It's been a little cramped, as he still gets surprised by how fast the holiday is upon us - he's really only started making a 'do' of it with me, since I come complete with a ton of European holiday traditions, and a box of tree ornaments.:) We're still working kinks out of the way we do things, but each year gets better.
May however you spend this time bring you peace, bring you meaning, and bring you joy.
