Oct. 26th, 2004 08:44 pmThis is going to take some getting used to. Sir has started this new consulting gig, and today was his first visit to a client. he got home at about 1:30, and doesn't have to go back to the client (or the 'home office', which really isn't) till Friday. Sounds all good, non? Well, he was working on the project till after 6pm. I know, I know, that probably doesn't sound too bad, but I'm just not used to it. The 'billable hours' consulting firms hype strike me as little screwy. When are you supposed to have a life.
On the other hand, having him home, even up to his eyeballs in projects, is nice. It's just the lack of stability in the day to day schedule that makes me feel a little...I don't know, rushed, not sure when would be a good time for any number of things, including my own projects, things I do after my housework is done, but before he comes home, so I can work undisturbed. Part of the problem is split attention - when he's home half of my mind is always monitoring him, making sure he's got fresh coffee and water, breakfast/lunch, is comfortable, etc., etc. That's not an easy habit to break, and the idea of breaking a habit that to me is the essenceof being a good servant just seems to miss something.
I know I'll adapt, it's just everything's a bit strange.
