I was up there this weekend, visiting my parents, and feeling the desire to move there as well. Which is notable because I've spent enough time there that I've experienced the negatives as well as the positives, and usually *don't* feel that way -- but my errands took me to Rust Belt Books and the Lexington Coop and all sorts of lovely places that the rents in NYC simply don't allow to exist. It's true that salaries are low there, but also true that cost of living is remarkably low -- my parents and I don't even seem to be operating on the same economic scale, most of the time.
