Oh, talk yourself into it. Sure, it'll be a lot of work, but that thing would look GOOD on you.
As far as Vegas goes, if gambling doesn't appeal to you, and the shows aren't anything you feel a need to spend the money on, than of course it's not going to be your thing. So what? Bring the books, read during convention hours, and hit up a couple nice restaurants in the evenings after the evil yellow ball has started to sink for the day.
Personally, I think going somewhere on vacation and catching up on reading sounds like a good thing.
